On 18 September, Russia's Central Election Commission announced the United Russia party won the parliamentary election. According to a preliminary tally by the Central Election Commission, the United Russia party won the majority in the election. There are 450 seats to Russia's State Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, and 226 of those are needed for a majority. The United Russia party is currently the ruling party after taking 238 seats in the 2011 election. The party has shown strong support for its founder, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his administration.
