MYANMAR: Fleeing Rohingyas Face Abuse by Traffickers

On 21 October Amnesty International released a report documenting the inhumane treatment of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar during their attempted flee to Indonesia via human traffickers. Some Rohingyas are taken against their will, but others willingly make deals with traffickers to take them to Indonesia, but are then beaten and held for ransom. Rohingyas are currently aggressively prosecuted in Myanmar, including being denied citizenship because of their distinct Muslim culture in a predominantly Buddhist nation. As long as discrimination against Rohingyas continues, they will continue to risk their lives in order to flee Myanmar.
